Aberdeen win the race to sign Craig Bryson and announce pre-contract deal

The Dons have pulled out all the stops to sign the Derby County midfielder and he will move to Pittodrie on a two-year-contract next month.

The 32-year-old had a host of offers but has decided to return to Scotland and make the move to Pittodrie.

Bryson knocked back a contract extension at Pride Park and a rival offer from Championship new boys Luton Town.

Frank Lampard was keen to keep Bryson at Derby County but Chelsea pursuit of their club legend to become their next manager proved to be a major bonus for Derek McInnes.

The former Scotland midfielder had also met with Hearts boss Craig Levein, was wanted by Hibs and was also offered a pre-contract from former club Kilmarnock when Steve Clarke was still in charge.

Aberdeen manager McInnes has been working on the deal for several weeks and is delighted to finally get his top summer target.

Bryson will be a direct replacement for captain Graeme Shinnie, who, ironically, made the opposite move to Derby on freedom of contract earlier this month.

Aberdeen are still in talks to bring Max Lowe back on-loan from Derby County next season, although Rangers also remain interested.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has told John Henry his Nabil Fekir transfer plans

Liverpool manager Klopp will rely on Henry for transfer funds this summer as the Reds aim to build on their remarkable campaign.

It was a stunning season for the Merseyside giants, who won the Champions League trophy 12 months after a defeat to Real Madrid, while also finishing second in the Premier League table.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the plethora of stars so far this summer, with links to Fekir refusing to go away.

The France international was on the cusp of a huge £53million transfer a year ago, only to end up staying at Lyon.

And Bleacher Report say that Klopp has told Henry he feels his Liverpool squad is complete.

The German is extremely confident that the team he has now is good enough to challenge Manchester City for the title next season.

And, regarding Fekir, Liverpool plan to only move for the World Cup winner should Lyon lower their demands.

Many expected him to join the club a year ago.

Photos even surfaced of him holding the Reds’ shirt – though images of him with the No 8 appeared to be wide of the mark.

Fekir’s agent lifted the lid on his failed move to Liverpool, admitting a they were on the verge of an agreement.

Jean-Pierre Bernes said: “It is not about staying here.

“And we will know maybe the real circumstances that prevented Fekir’s move to Liverpool. The knee was a part of it, but not only that.

“He had passed a medical, done photos with the Reds shirt…”

Speaking recently, meanwhile, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas admitted Fekir wanted to leave.

“His preference is towards a departure,” he told the club’s official website.

“We are open to discussions. We have no news.

“We are waiting for proposals in the coming days but for the moment we do not have any.”

Bleacher Report say Liverpool are also confident of keeping Mohamed Salah.

The Egypt international has been tipped to leave the club but it appears he will still be at Anfield next term.

Ed Woodward REJECTS Sir Alex Ferguson’s idea of who to bring to Man Utd this summer

Walsh was the chief scout at Leicester when memorably they won the Premier League back in 2016.

He brought in players such as Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante when they were relatively unknown.

Legendary Manchester United boss Ferguson has identified Walsh as the ideal candidate for a key role in United’s recruitment strategy.

Walsh knows United assistant manager Mike Phelan well having been his PE teacher in the 1980s.

But Woodward is not keen on bringing in Walsh and wants a former United player to take the role instead.

Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett said: “This is really interesting stuff that’s come through in the last few minutes.

“We understand that Sir Alex Ferguson is urging Manchester United to appoint Steve Walsh to mastermind the changes they’re aiming to make to the structure of the club.

“So that’s big news isn’t it, the club’s most successful manager getting involved here.

Ed Woodward and ex-Man Utd boss Sir Alex Ferguson

“You’ll remember Steve Walsh was head of recruitment at Leicester City, played a key role when they won the Premier League title back in 2016.

“It was he who unearthed the likes of N’Golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez.

“But it’s understood Walsh, who spent two years at Everton as sporting director didn’t have a lot more success there and was sacked last summer, he’s been recommended by Sir Alex for a consultancy role at Old Trafford.

“United are looking to overhaul their talent spotting and their talent development strategies.

“Interestingly he was also Mike Phelan’s PE teacher, this was back in the 1980s.

“But it’s thought Ed Woodward doesn’t like the idea.

“He’s much more in favour of bringing in a former Manchester United player for a role that’s going to focus much more on identifying young talent, setting out a long-term plan for the structure.

“So whatever Sir Alex Ferguson is recommending here in terms of Steve Walsh, it looks like Ed Woodward is not going to go for it.

“He would rather see a United old boy coming back to fulfil that role.”

Copa America FREE live stream: How to watch Brazil vs Venezuela online at NO COST

Philippe Coutinho scored a second-half double and Everton added a sublime third as Brazil recovered from a sloppy start to beat Bolivia 3-0 in their Copa America opener on Friday.

Both sides were poor in the opening 45 minutes but the game briefly came alive early in the second half when Coutinho slotted home a VAR-assisted penalty.

Coutinho bagged a second with a close-range header three minutes later before Everton rifled home a third from outside the box with five minutes left.

“In the end, with a bit of patience, we opened things up, we had more of the ball and we created plays,” captain Daniel Alves said. “We deserved a big victory.”

Brazil may have got the win they wanted in their Copa America opener but the aftermath was as much about the lack of atmosphere as the lacklustre display.

The 46,342 fans who turned out to see the match at Sao Paulo’s Morumbi stadium were not impressed and the team were booed at half-time.

The entire game at the stadium, which was 70 per cent full, was notable for the lack of atmosphere.

Coach Tite admitted the players heard the boos and said it was not realistic to expect supporters to cheer a team that was not playing well.

“We felt it!” Tite said. “Young lads feel it. The coach feels it.

“Having been at big clubs, when you sometimes don’t produce, then don’t expect the fans to understand. They will boo.

“When you pass the ball along the back, from full back to central defender to goalkeeper, the first thing you here is BOOOOOOO!”

“We need to understand. If we get forward and create chances then they will applaud.”

Venezuela, meanwhile, began their Copa America quest with a nervous 0-0 draw against Peru on Saturday

It was a stop-start affair marked by two Peruvian goals chalked off after VAR reviews.

The result means both sides are tied in second place in Group A, behind host nation Brazil.

England 1-0 France LIVE: Updates from European Under-21 Championship showdown in Cesena

Aidy Boothroyd’s England Under-21s get their European Championship campaign underway in a mouthwatering clash against France.

Manager Boothroyd believes this is his best squad yet but has warned his players that the tournament is “knock-out football from day one.”

England were semi-finalists two years ago in Poland, getting eliminated on penalties by Germany, and if they want to reach the final four this year then they must win their group which also includes Romania and Croatia.

“This is going to be one of the best U21 tournaments there’s ever been because of the quality of the teams in the tournament,” Boothroyd said. “As coaches and players we want to perform and be up against the best to push ourselves.”

Chelsea youngster Jake Clarke-Salter was named as England’s captain and the centre-back, who has had loan spells with Vitesse Arnhem, Sunderland and Bristol Rovers, is aiming to emulate Blues hero John Terry.

“I am a Chelsea player and John Terry is my idol and I look up to him a lot,” Clarke-Salter said. “I came through the academy and he gave me a lot of advice, that is the main factor for me personally.”

Manchester City starlet Phil Foden is in the starting line up alongside Leicester City’s James Maddison. Manchester United target Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also set to start the game.

France will likely call upon the services of former Fulham and Celtic hitman Moussa Dembele to spearhead their attack, while current Arsenal star Matteo Guendouzi and former Gunner Jeff Reine-Adelaide are expected to line up in midfield.

Man Utd tipped to launch Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang raid as presenter drops Arsenal stunner

Goldstein has been told by a so-called insider that Manchester United are targeting Aubameyang this summer.

The forward, who turned 30 today, scored 31 goals in all competitions for Arsenal last season.

He joined the club back in January 2018 for a club-record fee of £56m and has become a firm favourite with the fans.

But from what United fan Goldstein has been told, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on bringing Aubameyang to Old Trafford to lead their rebuild.

And he claims his insider has a success rate of 75 per cent when revealing transfer news, including Anthony Martial’s move to United back in 2015.

“I’ve got someone on the inside, not at United by the way, someone on the inside who every so often would tell me transfer gossip,” Goldstein said on Monday night.

“I would say he has a hit-ratio of about, quite high, 75-25. He’s told me quite a few that have happened. Not just at United but other clubs as well.

“He told me about Anthony Martial, which I tweeted I think two days before United even approached. It was one of them ‘how do you know?’, one of those.

Man Utd transfer interest confirmed… but Man City could scupper Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plans

Rodri has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks.

Spanish newspaper Marca today claimed Rodri has told Atletico Madrid he will leave the club this summer.

The holding midfielder has informed Atletico CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin of his decision.

And Spanish football expert Balague has confirmed United are battling Manchester City and Bayern Munich for Rodri, 22.

However, City and Bayern lead the race for Spain international.

He tweeted: “As expected Rodri will leave AtM -wanted by City, Bayern and even United, the first two favourite.

“They will get a (Sergio) Busquets type (exceptional defensive positioning, good delivery of ball) but not yet at his level.

“MUFC’s analysis suggested bit slow in reaction and awareness.

“For #MCFC the plan would be to play mostly (Ilkay) Gundogan and Rodri in holding midfielder role, with Fernandinho sharing duties there and as a third centre-back.”

United are expected to splash the cash this summer, with Ed Woodward fully behind Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Red Devils have already signed Daniel James from Swansea – and Solskjaer is keen to add more new faces.

United are in for a new centre-back and a midfielder, with Harry Maguire topping their defensive wishlist.

Leicester are demanding £90m for the England international, however, United are currently refusing to meet their asking price.

United may also need to replace Paul Pogba at Old Trafford.

The France international has hinted he could leave United this summer, claiming he needs a new challenge.

Should the Red Devils cash in on Pogba, Solskjaer will need midfield reinforcements before the start of next season.

Barcelona told to snub Antoine Griezmann and launch Neymar transfer bid on one condition

That’s the opinion of former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley.

Neymar has been linked with a move back to Barcelona this season, two years after he left for Paris Saint-Germain.

The Brazilian became the most expensive footballer in history in 2017 when PSG paid his £198million release clause.

However, there have long been rumours that Neymar regretted his decision to leave Barca just months later.

Despite scoring 34 goals in 37 Ligue 1 games in his time at PSG, the star has been criticised for failing to lead the French side past the round of 16 in the Champions League though he has also suffered long-term injuries.

On Monday, PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi raised eyebrows by saying that “nobody forced” Neymar to join, and hinted he could leave this summer.

Barcelona have been linked with a move for him this summer, as it has been suggested they are willing to offer up £90m and Ousmane Dembele for his services.

However, they have also been linked with Griezmann, and it is claimed they will have to pay £103m to trigger his release clause from Atletico Madrid.

According to Burley, however, they should ditch their pursuit of the Frenchman in order to bring back Neymar.

“He’s been a joke since he’s been at PSG, an absolute joke,” Burley said.

“He’s an excellent player.

“Neymar [over Griezmann], it’s pretty simple. As long as his head is screwed on, which it doesn’t seem to be at the moment.

“And he left Barcelona to get away from the shadows of Messi. Alright, so Messi isn’t getting any younger, but it’s not like he’s going anywhere soon, in the next 12 months or 18 months.

“The little guy seems to be going on for a while.

“So, if I had a choice, [it’s Neymar], but as Gab explained there are other factors.

“There’s wages, there’s transfer fees, financial fair play, there’s lots of facets.

“If it was black and white, and it could be done, I’m taking Neymar.

“So long as I know I’m getting the Neymar from before he went to PSG, not the guy who has been at PSG for two or three years.”

Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told Ed Woodward one signing is vital

Manchester United duo Solskjaer and Woodward are currently pressing ahead with the club’s transfer plans as they plot a route back to the summit of the English and European game.

The Red Devils have already signed one player in the form of Daniel James, who touched down from Swansea in a £17million transfer last week.

Manchester United are eyeing as many as six new faces this summer after a nightmare campaign where they finished sixth in the Premier League table.

Two midfielders are on his radar – regardless of Paul Pogba’s future – as well as a new forward should Romelu Lukaku leave for Inter Milan.

And the Evening Standard say United are determined to make Wan-Bissaka another signing for the summer.

It is claimed the Red Devils are hopeful of landing the 21-year-old for a fee close to £50million,

And Solskjaer has supposedly stressed to Woodward the importance of signing the Palace star.

United need a right-back to replace Antonio Valencia.

And, with Ashley Young on the wane, Solskjaer supposedly sees the transfer of Wan-Bissaka as a must-do piece of business.

Should they fail to land him, though, PSG ace Thomas Meunier is said to be the club’s alternative.

Crystal Palace legend John Salako, meanwhile, believes Wan-Bissaka should snub United to stay at Selhurst Park.

“He’s got the world at his feet. But my only concern is that we had Wilfried Zaha leave at a young age and he didn’t cope,” Salako told Love Sport Radio.

“He wasn’t mature enough and didn’t really settle in at Man United.

“He ended up coming back and has had the best spell of his career since he came back.

“He’s obviously another one linked with moving away but I’m just a bit concerned with Aaron.”

United have also been linked with another Palace star in Wilfried Zaha.

But the Eagles want close to £70m for their star performer, who spent a brief spell with the Red Devils earlier in his career.

Transfer news LIVE: Neymar to Man Utd, Pogba Liverpool theory, Arsenal order, Chelsea raid

Transfer news LIVE: Monday June 17

  • Manchester United is a potential destination for Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar
  • Liverpool have been brought into a transfer theory involving Paul Pogba
  • Arsenal chiefs have received a message from a Gunners hero about their summer plans
  • Chelsea are facing the prospect of Maurizio Sarri coming in for two Blues aces

8:20pm UPDATE: Liverpool will not sign Antoine Griezmann

Liverpool legend John Aldridge cannot see the Reds pushing the boat out to sign Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann.

“With Sturridge leaving the club and his huge wages coming off the weekly bill, it opens up the opportunity for Klopp to sign an out-and-out goalscorer who could offer something different if one of the front three is injured or out of form,” Aldridge said.

“Antoine Griezmann has been mentioned as a possible target, but he would be a very expensive option as his transfer fee and wages would be extravagant for a player who would expect to start every week.”

Griezmann is set to leave Atletico this summer, with Barcelona the anticipated destination for the French World Cup winner.

7:25pm UPDATE: Matthijs de Ligt to Man Utd?

Ray Parlour believes Manchester United are in with a chance of prising Barcelona target Matthijs de Ligt away from Ajax.

“He might want to play for Manchester United and play in the English league,” Parlour said.

“You’ve got to sell the club to him and give him a massive contract, that’s why he’d go there. Pay him more than he would get at Barcelona.

“They’re the sort of players you need. Manchester United over the years have always had top quality centre-halves always, every single era.”

6:55pm UPDATE: Paul Pogba blasted

Manchester United have been hurt as a brand because Paul Pogba suggested he wants out, claims former Liverpool ace Dean Saunders.

“That statement damages Man United,” Saunders said. “It damages the share price, it damages the people who are paying to get on MUTV for example, people who are buying season tickets, people who are going to buy shirts with his name on and just slam the brakes on today: ‘Oh hang on a minute, don’t buy that shirt’.

“You think of it, all round the world, that damages Man United. It’s not the first time he’s done it and I don’t know who’s advising him or whether he’s just doing it off his own back.

“He’s come out and said the players’ attitude and mind wasn’t right against Brighton, he’s winking when Mourinho got sacked as if to say ‘there you go, I won that battle’, there’s constant rubbish coming out in the press.”

6:30pm UPDATE: Frank Lampard to Chelsea backed

Frank Lampard is the man to replace Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea – not Massimiliano Allegri.

That is the opinion of Ray Parlour, who said: “He had a very good season at Derby. He could potentially be an excellent manager.

“There’s one thing about Frank – he will get a chance. I think Frank would get much of a chance than Allegri. Allegri might not want the job because of the transfer ban.

“Obviously Frank and Jody Morris have worked with a lot of the youngsters at Chelsea, knows them very well. I think that they will go with Frank Lampard, I really do. I think he’s showed enough in his first season at Derby.”

6:10pm UPDATE: Rangers vs Celtic battle

Rangers have stolen a march on Celtic in the race to sign Joe Aribo by offering the midfielder a £20,000-a-week contract.

Aribo is available on a free transfer having run down his deal at Charlton, who are also struggling to tie down manager Lee Bowyer.

The Daily Mail reckon a lucrative proposal has been tabled to the midfielder, who is understood to have attracted interest from Arsenal and Manchester City.

Arigo dropped a hint over a potential switch to Rangers by asking former Ibrox ace Marcus Gayle, who managed him at Staines Town, about the Glasgow giants.

5:40pm UPDATE: Maurizio Sarri plots Chelsea raid

Chelsea duo Jorginho and Emerson Palmieri are wanted at Juventus by new Allianz Stadium gaffer Maurizio Sarri.

Sarri quit Chelsea for Juventus over the weekend after spending just 11 months in the Stamford Bridge hotseat.

He is eager to prise two stars away from the Blues in order to bolster the squad Massimiliano Allegri left behind.

The Times claim Sarri has urged Juventus chiefs to build on his arrival by launching bids for both Jorginho and Palmieri.

5:10pm UPDATE: Arsenal chiefs handed order

Arsenal hero Robert Pires wants Unai Emery to be given more than the £40m he has to spend this summer.

“If you want to build a good team, you need to spend a lot of money, especially in the Premier League,” Pires said.

“I respect Arsenal’s position and the owner, but everybody knows that if you want to win the Premier League, you need to spend a lot of money.

“All the top clubs want to sign great players, but if you want a great player it costs a lot of money.”

4:40pm UPDATE: Paul Pogba wants to leave because of Liverpool

Paul Pogba is eager to quit Manchester United because of how far the Red Devils are adrift of Liverpool and Manchester City.

That is the opinion of former Premier League star Craig Burley, who said: “The reason is, one he’s had a lot of stick, two the club doesn’t seem to be going anywhere and three, they’ve named a manager who isn’t [established] and they’ve not made any signings and don’t look like they’re going to be making much headway, certainly early in the transfer market.

“So therefore he’s thinking: ‘Well are we going to track down Liverpool and Man City or am I going to have another year of a couple of average signings? And everybody says: ‘Paul Pogba’s not playing well again’.'”

4:10pm UPDATE: Neymar to Man Utd

Manchester United are being touted as suitors for Neymar if the Brazil international calls it a day at Paris Saint-Germain.

Neymar is one of the most famous faces on the planet with legions of fans eager to set their sights on him on the flesh.

United supporters might do just that one day if Sport are to be believed, with Old Trafford supposedly a possible destination.

The Spanish newspaper reckon Neymar could head for Real Madrid or Juventus, but that a return to Barcelona would be a problem from a financial perspective.
