Robert Pires says he is disappointed to see Aaron Ramsey leave Arsenal
Ramsey has played his last game for Arsenal, bringing an end to his 11-year stay at the Emirates.
The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and has agreed to join Serie A side Juventus.
Ramsey had hoped to lead the Gunners to Champions League qualification and bow out with a Europa League trophy.
However, a hamstring injury has brought an early end to the 28-year-old’s season.
I’m very happy for Aaron because he deserves this great opportunity
Pires is frustrated a player with the quality of Aaron Ramsey is being allowed to leave Arsenal for free.
But he says it is a great move for the Wales international at this point in his career.
“Yes of course I’m disappointed,” Pires told Sky Sports.
“I’ve known Aaron for a long time, he’s a great player.
“He’s doing very well, he’s scored a lot of goals.
“He was very important in the squad, especially in the dressing room.
“But you know, this is football, so we need to respect our decision.
“So for him it’s a new challenge, a new life. He needs to learn of course Italian.
“I’m very happy for Aaron because he deserves this great opportunity because the Serie A is a good league.
“Of course Juve is one of the best teams in Europe, he will play with one of the greatest players, Cristiano Ronaldo.
“So I repeat, I’m disappointed, but this is life.”
